The ‘North of the Wall’ Art Prize
This is a bi-annual competition (next in 2011), the purpose of which is to stimulate the creative arts and promote the work of disabled artists.
About ‘North of the Wall’ Ltd
Formed to provide a marketplace for the creative arts, ‘North of the Wall’ Ltd makes original, quality art works available at reasonable prices. ‘North of the Wall’ Ltd is delighted to sponsor this prestigious art prize.
Prizes
Overall winner: £3,000
3 Runners up prizes: each at £500
Disabled artist prize: £1,500
The Disabled artist prize is for an artist who is disabled as defined by the Disability Discrimination Act 1995.
Rules of the Prize
The ‘North of the Wall’ Art Prize is open to living artists over the age of 16 on 1st October of the preceeding year. Only original works, in any format, are eligible. All works must be available for sale. The judges’ decision will be final and binding.
Conditions of Entry
Artists may submit up to three works. Works submitted must be available for exhibition/sale until the end of September.
Method of Entry
Initial entries must be received by the end of April. In the first instance artists are encouraged to enter on-line (see link below), attaching digital images of the works being entered. This method of entry has been chosen to maximise accessibility to the competition whilst minimising cost of entry.
Entry Fees
The entry fee is £10 per work (£5 per work for disabled artists), payable at the time of initial entry. Payment may be made by Paypal, credit or debit card, or, by arrangement, cheque or money order. Cheques should be made payable to ‘North of the Wall Ltd’.
Acceptance for Exhibition
All artists will be advised whether or not their work has been accepted for exhibition by the end of May. A list of the accepted artists’ names and registration numbers will be available on request.
Handing in
Works accepted for exhibition must be delivered to: ‘North of the Wall’ Prize, by the end of June. The risk of damage or loss, however caused, is the responsibility of the artist, who is therefore advised to arrange adequate insurance cover.
Sale of Works
All works must be for sale. Commission of 33% will be levied on works sold during or as a result of the exhibition, or by means of the website, www.Northofthewall.co.uk. Title and risk will pass on payment by and collection by, or delivery to, the buyer.
Charitable Donation
10% of all commissions will be donated to disabled artist charities.
Reproduction of Images
Those artists whose works are selected for exhibition accept and agree that all works in the exhibition may be photographed and/or reproduced for the catalogue, press, publicity, promotion and advertising of the ‘North of the Wall’ Prize, including its website.
Exhibition
The judges will select up to 50 works for exhibition. The location, in the north east of England, and other exhibition details will be announced during May.
Collection of Unsold Works
Artists whose works are unsold at the end of the exhibition will be contacted by 30 September with full details regarding the collection of unsold works.
